USGEB 2008 -Union of the Swiss Societies for Experimental Biology- BIOLOGY MEETS ENGINEERING
"The last decade of life science research has been marked by increasing technological and methodological needs, in order to capitalize on spectacular progress accomplished in the areas of genomics and proteomics and enter an era where predictive modelling and quantitative approaches allow for truly systemic views of life processes. To paint this new landscape, a convergence of the efforts of engineers and biologists is an essential brush, whether to explore new approaches to fundamental questions or to discover innovative solutions for the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of biomedical or environmental problems that plague our times. The 2008 USGEB meeting aims at illustrating various faces of these trans-disciplinary endeavours, so as to stimulate further collaborations between the worlds of engineering and of the life sciences."
